Common Subzero Refrigerator Problems We Fix
These are the faults behind most of our calls. For each one we say what we check first, so you know what the visit involves.
Sub-Zero Fridge Not Cooling
This is the call we get most. The fresh food side runs warm, or the Sub Zero fridge is warm while the freezer stays cold. We start with the cheapest causes and work toward the expensive ones: a condenser clogged with dust, a fan that has stopped turning, a sensor that reads the wrong temperature, a defrost heater that has failed and let frost choke the airflow.
If both sides are warm, we look at the Subzero compressor and the sealed system. You can help by keeping the doors shut and noting the Sub-Zero model and serial number on the data label inside the cabinet. Then call us.
Error Codes and the Service Light
The control panel can flash a service light or show a code when the board sees a fault. That code tells us which system to test first, so write down exactly what you see before you call. Please do not keep switching the Sub Zero off and on to clear it. The code returns until the failed part is replaced, and the Subzero keeps struggling in the meantime.
Sub-Zero Ice Maker Not Making Ice
No ice, slow ice or a bin that stays empty usually comes down to the water valve, the fill line, the filter or a Sub Zero freezer that is not cold enough. We check each one in turn. The full list is on our Subzero ice maker repair page.
Sub-Zero Fridge Leaking Water
Water under the Sub Zero or inside it is a drain, a pan, a valve or an ice maker problem. Water ruins wood floors and custom cabinets quickly, so do not wait on this one. Please leave the Subzero in its cabinet. Pulling a Sub-Zero built-in out yourself risks the cabinetry and the water line.
Unusual Noise
A loud hum, a click that repeats or a grinding sound each tells us something different. A click at start-up often points to a start component. Grinding usually means a fan blade is rubbing ice or a fan motor is wearing out. A new noise is an early warning, so call before the Sub Zero stops cooling.
Frost Buildup
Heavy frost on the back wall or around the vents means the defrost system has stopped doing its job. We test the defrost heater, the thermostat and the control that runs them. For frost inside the Subzero freezer compartment, see our Sub-Zero freezer repair page.
